16/11/08 - Full Match Report
JIS were ill informed of the correct venue for this game and were sat in changing rooms at Moredon at 10.15am when the game was at Mannington, cue everyone rushing to vehicles to make the short trip!! Not ideal preparation!!
As the game got underway on a soggy surface it was obvious the legendary JIS grafting display was needed and with Henley back from a sabbatical and joining him in midfield Stuart Butler with Rich New (We will forget Liam New in the grafting chat as he doesn’t tackle!!) the hard working trio were just what JIS needed. Early pressure from AA forced the Trojan that is Davidson into a clearance off the line and some woeful finishing enabled JIS to capitalize and take the lead through a rejuvenated McCarthy with a backpost header. Henley then made it two with a 25 yard drive that was too hot for the keeper to handle, if it had been a hot pie I guarantee he’d have clung on!! Stevens somehow clawed a header out to keep it 2-0 then released a booming kick to set O’Sullivan on his way, Jono took his time and picked his spot superbly justifying his selection up top.
Second half was basically a game of JIS soaking up pressure, the back 4 winning header after header and Stevens only really having to make one save of note, and Mr Ricks bell on his bike being destroyed by a Pitt sliced clearance to the amusement of the boy before Rich New got some space to make it 4-0 and crush the hearts of AA.
Great win and dare I say it, back in the title race!!
AA Drainaway 0 – 4 JIS
