Knockout Cup Round 2

JIS had the opportunity to make the last 32 of the cup but had a tricky tie against Division 7 high flyers Westbrook. To JIS horror the average age of Westbrook was about 18 years old to JIS 30....ish!!

JIS v AA Drainaway

JIS had their first game under the guidance of Richard New and Pete Griffiths in the absence of gaffer Jake Henley, in Australia scouting a new striker, and AA Drainaway had a good reputation whilst JIS had a depleted squad, no McAteer, De Sando, Hunt or Tidy…….this however only turned to inspire the underperforming side to put in the most battling performance seen in years...

JIS were struck with bad news from the off when it was confirmed that their one trick nut-megging pony Anthony “The Beak” McAteer would not be in contention for a place in the squad due to a nasty binge drinking accident to his much better half – Rumour that Stacey got McAteers nose in the chin are still unconfirmed. JIS v Old Sarum FC

JIS had a Wilts Cup game in Salisbury with a big point to prove after 2 disappointing performances in 2 weeks. First thing of note was the travel sickness Jon O’Sullivan suffered, well……..he said it was travel sickness but it’s rumored he was out until 4am the night before!

Manager Jake Henley dropped a bombshell by dropping McAteer to the bench (he played at Wembley once don’t you know! He doesn’t like to talk about it though!) and went back to a 3-5-2 formation. JIS started brightly and De Sando was pulling the strings until he pulled up with a calf injury, this resulted in the reserved McAteer entering the fray and straight into his 1 man megging mission. JIS fell behind when a corner found its way to the back post and Craig ‘I can diagnose your injury’ Graham, back at the heart of defence, could only stab past the helpless Stevens.

JIS traveled to Ballards Ash in Wootton Bassett on a beautiful morning but preparations were put into disarray as a few signing on forms hadn’t been registered in time for the clash with Autocolour.

JIS started with Anthony ‘Dipper’ McAteer in centre midfield after returning from injury and he showed glimpses in the early stages of what he is about, milling around then bursting into life in an instant, then more milling.

JIS’s clash with Dynamo Ashton was postponed this weekend so a hastily arranged friendly with lower league opposition in Carters Rest at the Defence Academy.

JIS started the game with another couple of new faces into the starting lineup in Giovanni De Sando and Ross Peart up front and in midfield respectively, and were playing some nice football when De Sando’s excitement got the better of him and he attempted a 40 yard pass which was cut out by the left winger who proceeded to strike a 30 yard effort over keeper Stevens’s head in into the roof of the net, Stevens’s may feel he should have done better.

First game of the Sunday league season and unbelievably the game was at risk of being called off due to the weather, the pitch at Moredon Rec didn’t make for happy viewing or football but JIS came up against a promoted team and needed to have there best levels of concentration and commitment to see off the challenge of a side with some individual talent coupled with grafters.
